5 Cannabis Infused Mocktails to Bring in Some Holiday Cheer!

‘Tis the season for holiday parties which means heavy meals, boozy drinks, and the need for stretchy pants. If you’re worried that Santa won’t be the only one looking portly and rosy cheeked during the holidays, then check out these 5 cannabis infused mocktails as an alternative way to unwind and socialize during holiday festivities.

1.  Infused Hot Toddy

Kickin’ off the list we have the steamy cousin to the classic Hot Toddy. This infused cocktail replaces the whiskey of a classic Hot Toddy and replaces it with a cannabis infused honey to still keep that warm and fuzzy feeling. Here’s what you need to get started:

Canna Honey

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Get a small saucepan, warm the honey over low heat until thin.
  2. Remove from the heat and add the tincture. Make sure to stir well.
  3. Pour into a glass jar and store in your pantry as you would any regular honey.
    1. Make sure to mark it as infused so no one has a surprise space trip.

Dosing Note – If you are using a THC tincture from a NJ dispensary, each tincture bottle holds 100mg THC. So, the 2 bottles of tincture for this recipe means your 12 oz of infused honey will have 200mg THC, and each teaspoon of your infused honey will have almost 3mg THC.

Now with that being done we can start “bartending”.

Infused Hot Toddy

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hot tea
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons of honey, to taste and dose preference
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (grated, or 1 cinnamon stick)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (ground)
  • Garnish: lemon wedge

Instructions:

  1. In a warm Irish coffee glass or mug, add the infused Honey, lemon juice and spices.
  2. Top with hot, fresh-brewed tea.
  3. Stir well.
  4. Garnish with a lemon wedge

2.  Cannajito

Mojitos may be considered a warm weather drink but who says you can’t bring summer to the holidaze?! For this refreshing mocktail you’re going to want to create a cannabis infused simple syrup.

Infused Simple Syrup

What You’ll Need:

  • 3.5g cannabis flower
  • 1/3 brown sugar
  • 2/3 white sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • Saucepan
  • Measuring Cups
  • Cheesecloth
  • Whisk

Instructions:

  1. Decarboxylate your cannabis to activate the THC. Preheat your oven to 240ºF. Line a baking tray with parchment paper then evenly spread your roughly ground cannabis on top. Cover the tray with foil and tightly seal it. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-45 minutes. Give the tray a light shake halfway through to help the cannabis decarb evenly.
  2. Bring the water to a boil on low heat and add the sugar. Stir frequently until the sugar is fully dissolved in the water.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, add your decarboxylated cannabis and let it gently boil for 10 minutes. Stir frequently and do not allow it to get too hot and over boil. Too high of a temperature can damage the THC and other cannabinoids.
  4. After letting the mixture low boil for 10 minutes, lower the heat and add glucose syrup if desired. Let the mixture simmer for 6 to 7 minutes while regularly stirring. The mixture will now have started to thicken up into a syrup.
  5. Take the hot syrup off the heat and allow to cool down. While it’s cooling down, prepare a small strainer or cheese cloth which we will use to strain out the cannabis bits from the syrup.
  6. Pour the warm syrup through your strainer or cheese cloth to remove the weed bits. When the cannabis infused simple syrup has cooled down, it is now ready to use. Try it out in your favorite canna-cocktail recipe or add it to any drink. Enjoy!
  7. Store syrup in the fridge for best results and longer shelf life.

Dosing Note: The potency of the flower, the amount of flower, and the amount of simple syrup you use will determine how potent your mocktail will be. For our example, we are using 3.5g of 20% flower.

3.5g of flower that is 20% THC, means you have 700mg THC.

After you decarboxylate your flower you lose about 8% potency so you will end up 644mg THC to add into your simple syrup.

The recipe makes 2 cups of simple syrup, so each teaspoon of simple syrup will contain approximately 6.7mg THC.

If 6.7mg seems too strong for your liking, you can use non-infused simple syrup and add a 2.5mg Select Zero-Proof Squeeze – Lime Flavor to your recipe instead.

Infused Cannajito

Ingredients:

  • 10-15 leaves of fresh mint
  • 1 teaspoon of infused simple syrup (6.7mg)
  • ½ cup club soda
  • 4-5 teaspoons of lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime Wedges

Instructions:

  1. Start by muddling the mint using a mortar and pestle, a cocktail muddler, or just a wooden spoon.
    1. You can set a few leaves aside as a garnish, or just mash the whole set for an extra refreshing flavor.
  2. Add the crushed mint to a cocktail glass.
  3. Add club soda, lime juice, and simple syrup to the glass and stir well.
  4. Serve with ice cubes and lime wedges/mint as garnishes if you’d like.

3.  Orange Cranberry Cannamosa

This mocktail  isn’t just nice to look at, this gorgeous drink packs a lot of flavor. With it’s cannabis infused sugar rim, you’ll want to make this drink a future “Dankmas” staple. So let’s start with making some infused sugar.

Infused Sugar

What You’ll Need:

  • Mason Jar
  • Cheesecloth
  • Baking Sheet
  • 9in x 13in Baking Pan
  • 3 grams of cannabis flower
  • 1/2 cup of high-proof alcohol, such as Everclear
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oven to 240°F. Spread cannabis buds out into an even layer on a baking sheet and place in the oven.
  2. Bake for about 30–45 minutes, then remove from the oven and cool before grinding into a coarse powder.  (The decarboxylated cannabis will keep in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to 2 months)
  3. Transfer the cannabis to a jar and cover with the alcohol.
  4. Screw the lid on tight and shake every 5 minutes for 20 minutes.
  5. Strain through a cheesecloth set over a bowl, discarding solids.
  6. Mix the strained alcohol with the sugar and spread into an even layer in a glass 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  7. Bake at 200°F, stirring occasionally, until the alcohol has evaporated and the sugar is lightly golden.

You now have Cannabis Sugar! Let’s start making the drink.

Cannamosa

What You’ll Need:

  • Orange slice and Infused sugar (to sugar the rim of your glass)
  • Orange juice
  • Sweetened cranberry juice
  • Sparkling apple cider (Try 7-up or Sprite rather than apple cider for more of a citrus flavor)
  • Garnishes: fresh cranberries, cinnamon stick, and rosemary sprig
  • Ground cinnamon: just a tiny pinch
  • Small bowl or dish: to sugar the rim of your glass
  • Champagne glasses or small cocktail glasses
  • 1-2 ounce shot glass or measuring cup: to measure the liquid

Instructions:

  1. First things first, you’ll want some champagne glasses or small cocktail glasses. Let’s use the fancy ones, it’s the holidays!
  2. To sugar the rim, pour some white sugar onto a small plate so that it’s at least ⅛” deep. Spread it out to a bit wider than the rim of your glass. Wet the rim of your glass with a slice of fresh orange and make sure there is some juice on it. With your champagne glass upside down, dip the rim into the sugar and turn the glass a bit to make sure you get the rim coated in sugar.
  3. Avoiding the sugared rim, pour in the orange juice, cranberry juice, and sparkling apple cider.
  4. Garnish with fresh cranberries, a cinnamon stick, and a rosemary stick for garnish. If you can fit an orange wedge in there that would be pretty too!
  5. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon on the top.

If sugar rims are not providing enough THC for your liking, you can elevate your mimosa with a 2.5mg dose of Select Zero Proof Squeeze – Orange Flavor

5.  Cannabis Infused Eggnog

Now it can’t be a true holiday drink list without some good ol’ fashioned Eggnog. Finishing out our holiday mocktail list is a traditional eggnog with a canna twist!

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg yolks (Yolks only, no egg whites)
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Dosing Note: You will be mixing the RSO or distillate oil into your milk. Before infusing the milk, you’ll want to consider how strong you want a glass of eggnog to be.

This recipe makes approximately 10 – 2 oz drinks, if we use the 82% white runtz dablicator, each click line of the dablicator will contain about 45mg THC. This means each drink will contain approximately 4.5 mg THC.

Need to have a variety of doses for your guests, skip the rso/dablicator oil and have your guests add some Select Zero Proof Squeeze – Dash of Sweet Flavor. (Just 2.5mg in each dose)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the egg yolks and sugar.
  2. Whisk for 2-3 minutes until the mix is light and creamy.
  3. Combine the RSO/Dablicator oil, cream, milk, nutmeg, and salt in a saucepan. Heat until just simmering. Reduce to low heat.
  4. Add a ladleful of the hot cream and milk to the egg bowl and whisk well.
  5. Repeat until you have added almost all the cream mix.
  6. Once finished, pour the mixture into the saucepan and return the heat to medium-high.
  7. Whisk the mixture until it begins to thicken. If you have a thermometer, you want to reach 160-170°F.
  8. Turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Pour the prepared mixture into a container for refrigeration.
  10. When ready, you can serve this eggnog warm, room temp, or over ice.
  11.  Garnish with cinnamon and whipped cream.
  12.  Store the remainder of the eggnog in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

How to Make the Holidays with the Family Less Stressful Using Cannabis

Written By: Kevin Woolery
Edited By: Monica Werkheiser

The holiday season is right around the corner and you know what that means…family gatherings. Chaos in the kitchen, drama at the dinner table, anxiety over gift giving – the expectations of the holiday season can feel stressful and overwhelming. Not this year though, this year will be different. Why you ask? Because this time around you’ve got the herb. So take a look below, we’ve put together some family holiday scenarios and recommended products to help you be better equipped for family this holiday season.

Goofy Uncle

The Goofy Uncle

Want something to help you actually laugh at your uncle’s corny jokes this year?  An even keel hybrid that carries a good amount of the limonene to help elevate your mood. May we suggest Diamond Bar from Clade9 to have you laughing at your uncle so much, he’ll think he’s Jim Carrey.

Grandma

The Nostalgic Grandparent

Is Grandma constantly going on and on about the good ol’ days? Need something to help with patience and give you some focus so you can contribute to the conversation instead spacing out in the middle of her story. Look for products with Beta & Alpha Pinene in them for alertness and focus while also making you more talkative with grandma so you can finally earn that title of favorite grandchild. White Durban by Rhythm is a great option for just such an occasion.

Cousins gathering

The Cousin Crew

The holidays aren’t all bad, at least you know your favorite cousins are going to show up! So, make sure you got something really good for when y’all go on your annual “walk” before the holiday dinner. (Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about, we’re all adults here) A blissful indica leaning hybrid to uplift you and then bring you back down with a ravenous case of the munchies will have y’all picking up the pace to get back for dinner. For this we recommend something like Gorilla Butter from FullTilt or Pluto 85 from Garden Greens

The In-Laws

The Judgy In-Laws

Whether or not it’s your first time meeting them, holidays with the in-laws can be challenging and anxiety filled. Especially when blending family traditions. We suggest trying some edible THC/CBD combination products to get you out of your shell and make you social around anyone, even a grump like Mr. Scrooge. Try the Sparkling Pear 2:6 gummies from Camino, or if you’re not into gummies you can do the Bliss tablets from 1906.

Chatty Aunt

The Chatty Aunt

Need something for the aunt that seems to always have a million questions? We got you covered. You’ll want to grab a nice sativa with a decent amount of limonene for enhancing sociability and conversations. Pineland Diesel from Fernway or Green Crack from Ozone are both good options. Along with the limonene, they have a good amount of myrcene and pinene for stress reduction and increased focus.

Ultimately, the holidays always bring happiness, frustration, stress, and excitement. So, just  take a hit, step back, and enhance your holidays.

Celebrate the Holidays with Infused Baked Good

5 Infused baked good recipes that’ll have you feeling happy this holiday season!

Written By: Kevin Woolery & Monica Werkheiser

The Holidays are coming up and we all know we’re going to pack on a couple of pounds so why not enjoy it with some of these decadent treats that are just as fun to make as they are to consume. So satisfy that sweet tooth with one of these 5 infused holiday confections. Just make sure you don’t lick the spoon or you’ll find your desserts aren’t the only thing baked this holiday season.

  1. Canna Bark (infused with Inclusion Gourmet Chocolates)
  2. Chocolate Canna Chip Cookies (infused with Black Label RSO)
  3. Space Cake (infused with homemade CannaButter)
  4. Pumpkin Roll It Up Cake  (infused with homemade CannaButter)
  5. Snoop & Martha’s Pot Brownies (infused with Classix Cannabis Extract)

Canna Bark

Courtesy of Krista Simmons

Nothing screams Christmas like a tasty candy cane treat! If you’re a fellow chocolate enthusiast like myself then this infused CannaBark is a must for you.

Ingredients:

  • 32 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 oz white choc chips
  • 3.5 Oz.  Inclusion Gourmet Cannabar or CannaCubes
    • This is approximately 2 Cannabars or 2 Packages of Cannacubes
  • 8 Oreos
  • 8 candy canes
  • Approximately 1 tbsp of pure peppermint extract, to taste
  • Sprinkle of Sea Salt Flakes (such as Maldon Sea salt)

How to Make:

Before any infused baking make sure to do the math for dosing:

3.5oz or 2 packages of the infused chocolate bars or cubes from Inclusion Gourmet will equal 200 mg THC in your chocolate mix. If you split that into 20 dollops blended and stretched out by melting it with non-infused white chocolate, you will get around 10 mg THC per square.

First, Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

In a double boiler, melt the semisweet chocolate chips. Clean spatula, then do the same for the white chocolate chips and the Inclusion Gourmet Chocolate, either in a separate clean bowl or in a cleaned mixing bowl.

While it’s melting, crush candy canes and Oreos in a Ziplock bag.

Pour the semi-sweet chocolate onto the lined baking sheet, and spread evenly with a spatula. Wash your spatula again, making sure the colors don’t bleed. You want there to be separation so that your swirls look clean.

Add 20 dollops of white canna chocolate mixture in vertical lines.

Swirl with a kebab stick or large toothpick. Have fun making a psychedelic pattern!

Decorate by sprinkling with candy canes, Oreos, and Maldon salt, then chill for 45 mins in the refrigerator or until set.

Break apart and watch the stress of the upcoming holidays melt away.

Chocolate Canna Chip Cookies

Courtesy of Airmid Outreach

What’s a baked goods list without some cookies? This easy to make elevated treat will be sure to have you on anyone’s nice list.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 ½ cup flour
  • 12 oz milk chocolate chips
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 ⅛ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cup real, unsalted butter
  • 1g Black Label RSO
    • Note – the current batch of Hybrid RSO is 77.2% or 772mg THC per syringe

How to Make:

Before any infused baking make sure to do the math for dosing:

First figure out the mg in the 1g RSO Syringe

(1,000mg X _______% = Total mg per syringe)

1,000mg X 77.2% = 772 mg

Next determine how many cookies you are making

This recipe makes about 30 cookies

Last divide the total mg by the amount of cookies for your dose:

772 mg / 30 cookies = 26mg per cookie

If 26 mg is too much, then use only half of the RSO in the syringe to make 13mg cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a small bowl.
  3. Beat granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in a large mixer bowl until creamy.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually beat in flour mixture.
  6. Blend the RSO with the butter in a small bowl.
  7. Stir in chocolate chips and RSO/butter mixture with the rest of the ingredients.
  8. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Space Cake

Courtesy of Taste Atlas

A space cake is as awesome as it sounds. Imagine your favorite cake, but it’s infused with the unbridled power of cannabis! For this recipe before you start you’ll need to make some Cannabutter (Cannabis infused butter).

Materials

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven
  • Saucepan, stock pot, double-boiler, or slow cooker
  • Mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Container for cannabutter
  • Cannabis grinder (optional)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup water
  • 7 grams of cannabis flower

How to Make

Before any infused baking make sure to do the math for dosing:

Most cannabis flower contains 20-30% of THC, meaning 200 to 300 milligrams of THC per gram of cannabis. With simple math:

( 1,000mg X _______% x 7g = Total mg per cup of CannaButter)

We can conclude that if you use 7 grams of cannabis flower that is 25% THC you will end up with 1,750 mg THC per 1 cup of Cannabutter.

  1. Preheat the oven to 245ºF.
  2. Cover the baking sheet with parchment paper and place the  cannabis loosely broken up on it.
  3. Heat in the oven for 30-40 minutes. Gently mix the buds every 10-15 minutes to expose all sides of the buds.
  4. Grind up the cannabis but be careful not to grind the weed into a fine powder because anything small enough to fit through the mesh strainer or cheesecloth will end up in your finished product.
  5. Melt 1 cup of butter in a saucepan on low heat. Add 1 cup of water to help prevent the butter from scorching.
  6. After the butter is fully melted, add in the decarbed cannabis.
  7. Simmer on low heat, for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. The mixture should never come to a full boil.
  8. Place a mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a jar and pour the butter/cannabis mixture through it. Don’t squeeze out every bit of butter—this will add chlorophyll to your cannabutter, giving it a bad plant taste. Discard the plant material.
  9. Place the jar of butter in a fridge, and let it solidify before using, ideally overnight. If excess water forms at the bottom of the jar, remove the solid butter with a knife and drain out the water.

Now that you have your Cannabutter, you are ready to make your space cake. Typically, a space cake is a simple sponge cake, which is usually made with flour, eggs, sugar, Cannabutter, milk, and baking powder and can be enriched with chocolate, vanilla extract, dried fruits, nuts, chocolate chips, and various spices.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup Cannabutter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt

How to Make:

Before any infused baking make sure to do the math for dosing:

If we use the calculation from before with 25% THC flower, we know that 1 cup of cannabutter is 1,750 mg THC. This recipe only calls for ½ a cup of Cannabutter and will make about 24 servings. That means each serving will contain approximately 36 mg THC. If that’s too strong for your liking, consider using less potent flower or doubling the amount of butter you use when first making the CannaButter.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  • Sift the all-purpose flour, the baking soda, and the salt into a large bowl.
  • Cream the softened cannabutter and brown sugar until fluffy, (ie. mix the butter and sugar together on a moderately high speed until well blended, fluffy and pale yellow) then add the eggs one by one, beating after each addition.
  • Whisk in the melted chocolate and the vanilla extract.
  • Whisk in half of the sour cream and the flour into the cannabutter mixture, then whisk in the other half.
  • Stir in the boiling water.
  • Pour the batter into a pan, taking care that it is spread evenly
  • Bake for 35 minutes.

Once cooled, decorate the cake with anything you want. Lastly, marvel at the beauty of your space cake, and get ready for your holidays to feel out of this world!

Pumpkin “Roll it up” Cake

Courtesy of Cannabis Cheri

This fabulous light pumpkin spice cake, rolled together with a rich, cannabis infused cream cheese filling will allow you to fully encapsulate those festive fall flavors and possibly make a future thanksgiving dinner staple. (At the adults table only of course)

 Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting towel)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup canned pumpkin

Filling:

  • 1 package cream cheese (softened, 8 ounces)
  • 3 tablespoons cannabutter softened
  • 5 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar

How to Make:

Before any infused baking make sure to do the math for dosing:

If we use the calculation for our Cannabutter from before with 25% THC flower, we know that 1 cup of cannabutter is 1,750 mg THC. This recipe only calls for 3 tablespoons of Cannabutter (328 mg THC) and will make about 8 servings. That means each serving will contain approximately 41 mg THC. If that’s too strong for your liking, consider using less potent flower or doubling the amount of butter you use when first making the CannaButter

  • Preheat the oven to 375º F. Grease a 12″ x 17″ jelly roll pan or cookie sheet with sides then line with wax or parchment paper. Grease and flour the paper.
  • In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar together with an electric mixer until thick and pale yellow, about 2 minutes. Stir in canned pumpkin until well combined. Stir in flour mixture just until combined.
  • Pour mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Use a rubber spatula to smooth the batter out to the edges in an even layer and bake for 12 – 15 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched.
  • While the cake is baking, prepare a clean kitchen towel by laying on the counter and dusting evenly with the powdered sugar.
  • When the cake is done, immediately invert onto the kitchen towel.
  • Peel off the parchment paper.
  • Starting at the shorter end of the towel, gently and loosely roll the cake inside of the towel (towel will be wrapped up inside the cake roll). Move to a rack and cool completely before filling.

Snoop & Martha Stewart’s Pot Brownies

Courtesy of National Hemp Service

Ok, so who doesn’t want to channel the queen of all things domestic especially during the holidays. Well, why not start with Martha Stewart’s very own pot brownie recipe. Allergy note – this recipe incorporates sweet icing and chopped pecans but these  which make this soft, cakey brownie rich and delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • ⅔ C cannabis-infused oil
  • 2 C sugar
  • 1 ½ C all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 C chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

How to Make:

Before any infused baking make sure to do the math for dosing:

To make your cannabis infused oil, you can add cannabis distillate to the  ⅔ cup vegetable oil.  The White Runtz dablicator is 82.5% THC, so each click line of the dablicator will contain about 45mg THC.

If you use 2 click lines of the White Runtz dablicator into your vegetable oil, then you will have approximately 7.5mg THC in each of the brownies if you cut your brownie batch into 12 equal pieces.

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F.
  • Butter a 9” x 13” baking pan; set aside.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat eggs on low speed.
  • Add canna oil and sugar, beating for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add egg mixture, beating just until combined. Stir in pecans and vanilla.
  • Pour batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake until the edges just start to pull away from the pan, about 35 minutes.
  • Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Spread icing over brownies; allow to set before serving.

Martha Stewart’s Chocolate Icing

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ½ C confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted (use cannabutter if greater potency is desired)

How to Make:

  • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat egg with 1 cup sugar on low speed.
  • With mixer running, add 1/2 cup sugar and cocoa into egg mixture; mix well.
  • Add remaining 1 cup sugar, vanilla, and butter; beat to combine.

For those that aren’t the best baker’s, there’s no shame in your game we got something for you too. Just grab one of our ButaCake Brownies (Regular or PB&J) or Cookies, throw it in the microwave for about 20 seconds and place a dollop of your favorite ice cream on it. Sure makes for an easy infused treat with an even easier clean up!

Whether you’re making infused baked goods for yourself or your family and friends this holiday season, always remember to go slow and start low. And be sure to keep your special stash of goodies clearly marked. No one wants to be the reason grandma thinks she’s joined the cast of reefer madness.

These 5 seasonal pairings are a great way to elevate your day with a morning Wake & Bake smoke session.

1. Coffee & Mac n Jack strain

If your goal is energy and focus, these two can be a gorgeous combination. Caffeine has been known to intensify a cannabis session and pairing it with energizing sativa can be a pleasant start to your day. Looking for some delicious local coffee, check out Kafe Ojala. Their Costa Rican Coffee provides refreshing notes of orange, lemon & lime along with smooth undertones of milk chocolate giving you a sweet and comforting richness that pairs well with the citrus pine notes of Mac & Jack.

2. Hot Apple Cider & J1 strain

Nothing screams fall like a warm cup of apple cider that’s been sweetened with some delicious maple syrup and savory allspice berries and cinnamon. Pair this with the sweetness of the sativa leaning J1 strain and it’s the perfect way to tackle fall activities, so you can pick out the best pumpkin in the patch!

3. Karak Chai & Cereal Milk strain

Creamy, sweet and indulgent, Karak Chai is a strong tea traditionally brewed with more tea and less spices compared to other styles of chai. Karak Chai achieves so much with just one key spice, cardamom and pairing this with the Cereal Milk strain hits you with waves of mood boosting euphoria and eventually wraps you in a blanket of warm calmness to relax and watch some festive flicks!

4. Hot Cocoa & Animal Face strain

Bring in the Fall season with some delectably chocolate Hot Cocoa. This creamy, decadent, rich-tasting beverage topped with some velvety whipped cream and paired with the Animal Face strain will whisk you away into a giggly cloud-like state but be careful because one too many pulls and you’ll be counting sheep in no time!

5. Pumpkin Spice Latte & L’Orange strain

Sorry, but you know we had to do it. Is it really fall without the pumpkin spice latte?! This classic beverage leans into its nutmeg, cinnamon and clove notes to execute a long-successful formula that’s been keeping everyone coming back the last 20 years! Pair this with the L’Orange strain’s herbal overtones that turn sweet and notice how quickly your mind will fill with happy thoughts and a focus that will not only have you tackling your to-do list for the day but also will have you putting up Halloween decorations in September.

If inhaling cannabis is not for you. You can infuse your hot beverages using these techniques:

  • RSO/Distillate
  • Canna Cream/Milk
  • Canna Butter
  • Infused Honey
  • Canna Tea

RSO/Distillate: dablicators or syringes are the easiest way to infuse you your hot beverage. Just add your desired dose to your tea, make sure to stir it well, and enjoy. Unsure of your dose, a Canna Remedies team member can help you find the amount that’s just right for you.

Canna Cream/Milk: will require you to grind up and decarboxylate your bud (bake it briefly for twenty to thirty minutes at about 280 degrees to activate the THC), then add it to a simmering pot of milk or creamer. Let that infuse for 35 to 45 minutes while stirring frequently, then strain out the plant matter. Infusing milk, half-and-half or condensed milk requires hovering to ensure that a skin doesn’t form.

Cannabutter: Melting butter in coffee has become a trendy way to add richness and fatty calories to your morning joe, so classic cannabis infused butter makes a great vehicle for adding cannabis to your coffee.

Infused honey: Cannabis infused honey is another natural choice for adding THC to your coffee. It adds sweetness while avoiding the greasiness of cannabutter or cannabis infused coconut oil.

Canna Tea: Have you been throwing out those pesky stems that are in your flower? Well, you shouldn’t be, save them and make some Canna-Tea! It’s a simple process that just requires the following Ingredients & Steps:

Keep warm this autumn with these 5 seasonal beverage and cannabis combinations

Ingredients:

  • Stems from your favorite strain (1 ounce (about 29.57 ml) per cup of water)
  • Water
  • Pot (the kitchen kind) for boiling water
  • Binding agent (more on this below)
  • Coffee filter, cheesecloth, or strainer
  • A teapot, cup, bowl, or second cooking pot to strain the liquid into
  • Your favorite loose tea or tea bag (optional)

Steps:

  1. Weigh your stems if possible. You’ll need 1 ounce (about 29.57 ml) of stems per cup of water. If you don’t have a food scale, break up your stems until they fill a 1⁄8 measuring cup. So, for example, if you want to brew 2 cups of stem tea, you’ll need 2 ounces (about 59.15 ml) or 1⁄4 cup of stems.
  2. Pour the water into a pot.
  3. Measure in your fat-based binding agent. If you choose an alcohol-based binding agent, skip this step. You’ll add the alcohol later. Here are some useful amounts for your fat-based binding agent:
  4. 1⁄2 tsp of butter or coconut oil per cup of water
  5. 2-1⁄2 tbsp of whole milk, half-and-half, or coconut milk per cup of water
  6. Turn the burner on high and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. When the water’s boiling, add your stems.
  8. Boil everything together for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. If you have the patience, stir the mixture gently for the entire 10 minutes. This exposes as much of the stems to boiling water as possible. If you can’t stop stirring for 10 minutes straight, move the mix around every 2 to 3 minutes.
  9. After 10 minutes, remove the pot from the burner.
  10. If you choose an alcohol-based binding agent, add 1 tablespoon per cup of water now. We like rum in our tea because it adds sweet notes to the bitter, grassy taste of the stem tea itself.
  11. Pour the stem tea mix through a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or strainer to separate the liquid from the solid plant matter.
  12. Enjoy!

You can also make Tea with flower itself as well! If you prefer that option because you don’t have any stems here is the ingredients & steps for that below:

Ingredients:

  • 1 gram of cannabis
  • 1 tbsp of coconut oil or unsalted butter
  • 4 cups of water
  • A teabag of your choice
  • Your preferred sweetener
  • A strainer, coffee filter, or cheesecloth
  • A teapot, mug, and spoon

Steps:

  1. Chop or slightly grind your cannabis, separating all the seeds and stems. Boil the water on a stovetop and add the coconut oil or butter, stirring vigorously until it dissolves.
  2. Add the teabag and your cannabis, lower the flame, and continue simmering for 7-10 minutes. Keep stirring every minute or so. A lower temperature will help preserve the medicinal properties of the plant.
  3. Remove the teapot from the stove, discard the teabag, and strain the tea slowly and carefully. If you prefer to use a metal strainer, make sure it’s a very fine one, or you’ll have bits of leaves in your mug. Discard any excess plant matter.
  4. Sweeten your tea to taste and add milk or lemon as you prefer. You can also opt to add a cinnamon stick or a spring of peppermint to the hot tea to mask the characteristic weed flavor.
  5. You can make weed tea even more easily if you have cannabis-infused butter, oil, or honey, or a cannabis tincture. Simply steep the cannabis extract in hot water with a teabag of your choice, mix thoroughly, add your preferred sweetener, and then last but not least enjoy!

High on Horror

7 Scary Movies to Hotbox, I mean Netflix & Chill With!

Written By: Kevin Woolery
Edited By: Monica Werkheiser

It’s that time of year again! Grab some popcorn, candy, drinks, and your favorite strain. Get ready to be glued to your seat for the next few hours because we’ve got 7 scary movie suggestions that are a must watch this Halloween season. Not sure what strain will get you ready for this fright fest, no worries, we’ve added some suggestions to elevate your horror experience.

High on Horror
  1. Cabin in The Woods (2011)

If you’re looking for the pinnacle of horror comedies (slightly more on the horror) to watch while high then look no further. This clever and fun take on the classic horror movie tropes follows a group of college students who retreat to a remote cabin in the woods blissfully unaware of all the sinister signs that something terrible is about to happen. It takes typical horror cliches and puts a unique twist on things, all while giving some laughs that’ll make you glad you sparked that pre-roll beforehand!

I’d recommend a sativa-leaning hybrid pre-roll to push that cerebral focus with some traditional sativa-hybrid giggles.

High on Horror
  1. Evil Dead (2013)

This remake is a quintessential watch for any horror fan. It takes the classic horror comedy from the early 80s and flips it on its head with a new grittier, gothic, and ghastly approach. When five friends head to a remote cabin in the woods, discover the Book of the Dead, and summon up demons; there WILL be gore. This one is NOT for the faint of heart. To truly settle in for “the most terrifying film you’ll ever experience”, you’ll want to smoke an indica dominant flower strain to give you that cement like body-high and be so you can be velcroed to the couch for this wild ride.

High on Horror
  1. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

It’s been two decades, and this movie still holds up as one of the premier Zom-Coms of our time. It’s actually very difficult to combine horror and comedy on the big screen but Edgar Wright does it with ease.  This romantic zombie comedy about the uneventful, aimless lives of a London electronics salesman and his layabout roommate being disrupted by the zombie apocalypse has really paved the way for the Zombie satire genre.  How’s that for a “slice of fried gold?! “

Be sure to smoke a nice hybrid flower strain with high amount of limonene for that mood boost to truly enjoy the laughs you’re in for.

High on Horror
  1. The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)

As a dark yet clever found footage supernatural horror film, The Taking of Deborah Logan, tells the story of a documentary crew making a film about Alzheimer’s patients who uncover something sinister while documenting a woman who has the disease. You’ll find yourself unnerved and saddened by the state of Deborah, but you won’t stay there too long as the filmmakers made sure to put in some of the most intense and effective jump scare moments that I’ve seen in years.

Make sure you settle in with a sativa vape that’ll give some good focus for this thriller because you want to make it to the end of the movie, TRUST me.

High on Horror
  1. Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)

Would you ever work at a morgue? Yeah, me neither but this movie takes all those disturbing and creepy scenarios we think would happen at a morgue and brings them to life, only thing is, is it the morgue or the body making these things happen?

You’ll want a relaxing edible because you’re not going to want to settle in for a deliciously horrid journey.

High on Horror
  1. The Mist (2007)

Stop me if you’ve lived, I mean heard this one before: from out of nowhere, a vague threat spreads across America. This movie is a terrifying example of what would happen if the scary grotesque fantasy creatures you imagine came to life. The creatures in this movie will genuinely make your skin crawl and keep harping on the lingering question, what truly is the mist?

I’d recommend taking a sativa-hybrid edibles for this one. It’s a 2-hour movie so you don’t want the high to wear off or the doom and gloom to take over. And you especially DON’T want to miss this ending!

High on Horror
  1. The Shining (1980)

I’m sure if you’re a horror fan you’ve already seen this classic, but now ask yourself have you seen while elevated? If not, let’s change that and spark up a good sativa hybrid because it will definitely enhance the experience of this adaptation to one of Stephen King’s greatest novels. If you haven’t seen this, you’re in for a treat, just imagine being stuck with your family at a hotel during a blizzard… just you and your family, I’m sure that would be a horror movie too.

Hopefully you found a movie on here for your Halloween horror & munchie fest. Let the lights dim and the cannabis kick in but make sure not to get so high that the horror on the screen starts to feel like real life. Just loosen up and ease your nerves. Don’t worry, that noise you just heard was totally not an immortal embodiment of evil.

Spooky season is here! And if you’re like me, you probably waited until the last minute to think of a good costume idea. Don’t worry, we’ve got everything you need to get you into the spooky spirit.

Here’s 6 cannabis inspired Halloween costumes that are guaranteed to get some giggles and maybe even earn you a #1 costume.

Witch Way to the Halloween Festivities?

1. The “Baked” Potato
Totally baked and ready to party! This one is guaranteed to get some laughs and it’s easy to create. You’ll need to make a felt or foam pull-over tunic in the shape of a baked potato. Add felt bloodshot eyes and melting butter in the middle and top it off with felt marijuana leaves. You can kick it up a notch with a fake jumbo joint.

Witch Way to the Halloween Festivities?

2. Michael Highers
Who says you can’t tame Michael Myers? Transform your favorite frightening character into a mellow giant. For this one, find yourself a dark blue, black, gray or spruce green mechanic jumpsuit, black work boots, and a Michael Myers mask (white paint also works). Replace the large kitchen knife with a blunt or bong and you have yourself Michael Highers.  Looking to add a bit of flare, add some cannabis leaves to the jump suit.

3. Zig Zag guy
Simple yet brilliant. The only difficulty you may have is if you don’t have facial hair. If you do, then channel your inner hipster, grow that beard and twist the ends of your moustache for that ultimate handlebar look. Add an orange beanie with some orange attire and you’re good to go.

Witch Way to the Halloween Festivities?

4. Blazy Susan
For those without facial hair but still looking for a simple yet elegant look. Wrap yourself up in a blue waitress uniform and go as Blazy Susan! Put your hair up in a ponytail, add a blue waitress cap,  and a tray of rolling supplies and you are all set for a fun Halloween sesh.

5. Weed Paraphernalia
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been high and wondered what it was like to BE cannabis. So why not try this Halloween. Dust off those thinking caps and get creative! First you’ll need crafting supplies – cardboard, paint, foam, fake moss.  Then grab your friends and together, craft yourselves into a figurative (or literal) smoke sesh with all the necessary accessories – grinder, papers, lighter, and a bag of weed.

6. Cheech & Chong
Last but certainly not least, you can never go wrong with the classic Cheech & Chong. I mean what Halloween list would be complete without them. So grab your partner because everyone knows you can’t have Cheech without Chong. And then head to the thrift store. You’ll need the full get up; everything from the bandana & beanie to the iconic denim fit & yellow tank with khaki work pants and red suspenders. If you really want to look the part, then make sure you spark up some of that special strain you’ve been hoarding for a good time, not too much though or you’ll be asking “Am I driving okay?” and your partner will be saying “I think we’re parked, man”. Always blaze responsibly.

I hope these DIY costumes sparked some joy and end up being the hit of your Halloween party.

The Benefits of Consuming Cannabis & Working Out

Written By: Kevin Woolery
Edited By: Monica Werkheiser

Feeling tired after a long day at work and lacking motivation to go to the gym? Okay, now this might sound crazy, but cannabis can help! I know what you’re thinking—“But how? Doesn’t cannabis make you sluggish and unmotivated?” I’m here to dispel those myths with some facts on how cannabis can not only enhance your workout but also help with the recovery after. Now, don’t get me wrong, cannabis is in no way a performance enhancing drug. So no, unfortunately you will not turn into Steve Rodgers (Captain America) after one joint, but you can however increase enjoyment, boost recovery and spark motivation.

A first-of-its-kind study out of the University of Colorado looked at the role cannabis consumption has in one’s exercise routine.

“The bottom-line finding is that cannabis before exercise seems to increase positive mood and enjoyment during exercise, whether you use THC or CBD,” says first author Laurel Gibson, a research fellow with CU’s Center for Health and Addiction: Neuroscience, Genes and Environment.

Interestingly, this study showed differences between those consuming products that were predominantly THC vs mostly CBD. The heightened mood was even greater in the CBD group, suggesting athletes may be able to get some of the benefits to mood without fear of impairment by THC.

“Okay but HOW does cannabis make exercise more enjoyable?”

We know that endorphins are hormones that your body produces to relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve your mood. Studies are now showing that cannabinoids, like THC & CBD, are binding to receptors in the brain and producing the same effect. Some would say it’s a different kind of runner’s high, if you know what I mean.

Not only can cannabis make you feel good mentally, but it also does wonders for your body in recovery, after an intense workout. THC dominant and CBD dominant products alike are linked to easing pain, reducing inflammation, and improving sleep. All of which are hallmarks for an excellent workout recovery!

“Are people REALLY using cannabis to enhance their workout?”

The short answer, YES! A 2022 study in the Journal of Cannabis Research found the top 5 most common types of exercise while using cannabis were hiking (60%), yoga (58%), aerobic machines (51%), weightlifting (44%), and walking (43%).

Ready to add some cannabis to your workout regimen?

Here’s some suggestions on how to enhance your workout.

Going for a run? Sativa‘s are packed with energizing terpenes that will turn that morning jog from a chore into a more attractive task. Some great strains to puff before a run would be some of the following strains:

  • Super Lemon Haze: With this strain, you will feel your mood elevate as stress and fatigue melt away, replaced by a wave of euphoria and pep that will have you feeling like Usain Bolt during that run!
  • White Durban: This strain offers consumers a rushing euphoria with a light cerebral energy and physical tingle. Try this strain before going for a run on a beautiful sunny day and you’ll feel like running for hours!
  • Sour Diesel: Couch lock and a “heavy feeling” aren’t a factor with sour diesel. Instead, it’s stimulating and lively head high takes you out of that quicksand-like body feeling and catapults you into action, bringing more amusement to that run.

Pumping some iron? You can consume cannabis before working out to relax the body before the stress it’s about to endure or you can help bolster your post workout recovery. The most ideal strain types to target these specific effects are hybrids or indica dominant hybrids. While indica strains are great for pain, they can have you falling asleep at the bench press, and no one needs that! Some great strains to try before lifting are the following:

  • Pluto 85:  This indica leaner’s terpenes mesh perfectly by giving you those Anti-inflammatory properties with it leading in the Beta Caryophyllene terpene, along with an elevated mood.
  • G13: This Hybrid does wonders for your mood, uplifting you into feeling like you can lift the whole gym! It also comes with some Myrcene and Beta Caryophyllene terpenes to give you those relaxed and anti-inflammatory properties so you can keep pushing and not reach fatigue so quickly.
  • Mac n Jack: If you want an elated and electrifying lifting experience this is the strain for you! This strain packs a bit of a punch with energy and comes with those same Beta Caryophyllene and Myrcene terpenes like the previous two strains so you’re getting those same relaxing and anti-inflammatory qualities to fight off that tired feeling.

So, if you avoid working out because you don’t like it, it’s boring, it feels bad, or you just don’t want to, then it may be time to consider if working out with cannabis is for you. Just remember cannabis is NOT a sports enhancing drug but hopefully it will help make it more fun and easier on the body. Oh and please consume responsibly. Reduced coordination = bigger chance of injury. Also no one wants to be the person sitting there, giggling and thinking about how strange it felt to sweat. Just trust me on that one.
